This week has not gone at all according to plan.  Let me repeat that.  This week has NOT. Gone. At. All. According. To. MY. Plan.

Many things caused this, but the main thing is that Sweet Pea got an infection in the ant bites she received last week, and both she and Bossy Boy have strep throat.  While Sweet Pea continues to go shoeless for the second week at school, she appears to feel fine.  In fact, I never would have known that she had strep if her ant bites had not gotten infected.  At that point, since we had just gotten results on a culture from Bossy Boy’s throat, we knew he had strep.  The doctor was very concerned about whether or not Sweet Pea had strep because it would never do to get it in the already infected ant bites.  No Sirree, that might cause something really bad to happen, although I didn’t know her toes could get much worse.  In any case, after debriding her infected ant bites, she had a strep culture taken as well which came back positive.  She returned to school today, but Bossy Boy is missing school again.

So I am behind on everything.  I have canceled flute lessons, have heated up endless amounts of chicken noodle soup and have remained inside.  Thankfully, friends have come to my aid in helping with afternoon arrangements for the child who didn’t get sick.

And speaking of that, yesterday a good friend of mine picked up Funny Boy from school and kept him until the evening activities at church at which point hubby retrieved him.  Funny Boy had a great time with his, ahem, female classmate.  He saw her grandparents’ fish pond and played with her chihuahua puppy.  But apparently, he also made his move.

Now, these parents have decided their daughter will not date, rather taking the road of courtship instead.  And regardless, they certainly aren’t planning on letting her develop serious relationships with boys in the 1st grade!  (Of course, we don’t plan on that either, but I tell you, children are sneaky.  One moment away and you don’t know what might happen.)

Funny Boy and his friend were sitting in the minivan, when all of a sudden, her mom heard the note that Funny Boy had passed being read aloud.  “I     want      to    kiss    you.”  Luckily, her dad and his shotgun weren’t around. 🙂

It just goes to show that the best laid plans of mice and men…

For my friends, protecting their daughter from boys has started in grade 1.  Of course, said friend was laughing when she shared this (after all, they are in first grade), but boy, do they grow up quickly.

Don’t worry, B. I don’t own a shotgun. My guess though is you had better watch your daughter around my son. He is a player even at age 4. If there was ever a love ’em and leave ’em kind of guy in the kindergarten set it would be him.

Hey! I am enjoying your blog tonight. LOTS of great links! I am a menu-making, organizing freak, so this stuff is right up my alley! Thanks for sharing.
Hope everyone is on the mend soon. My kids all have the sniffles, but we’re working on it. Typical of a new school year. Being homeschoolers, we’re not in the worst of it, but we’re not immune by any means!
It was good to see what y’all are up to. I’ll be back again!
